George Masaki
George Yutaka Masaki of Lihu‘e died at Garden Isle Health Care on Feb. 20, 2011, at age 100. Born in Makaweli, Kaua‘i on Aug. 22, 1910, he retired as an electrical engineer with Kaua‘i Electric.
He is survived by his wife, Fusae Masaki of Lihu‘e; two sons, Daniel (Laverne) Masaki of Virginia, Carl (Fanny) Masaki of O‘ahu; two daughters, Diane (Sidney) Hamamoto of O‘ahu, Susan (Douglas) Fujii of Lihu‘e; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services were held.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the Masaki family with arrangements.
Elisa Balauro
Elisa Brioso Balauro of Kekaha died Feb. 25, 2011, at Straub Hospital in Honolulu at age 69. Born Jan. 31, 1941, in Patucannay Bangued, Abra, Philippines, she was a retired worker with Syngenta Seeds Inc.
She is survived by her husband, Valentin Balauro Sr.; brothers, Leonardo Brioso of Philippines and Juan Brioso Jr. of Philippines; sister, Herminia (Arnold) Gandeza of California; sons, Richard Balauro of Kekaha and Valentin (Piilani) Balauro Jr. of Kekaha; daughters, Jackelyn (Gene) Hayashi of Honolulu, Jean Balauro of Honolulu, Joy (Larry) Groenleer of Lihu‘e; grandchildren, Justin and Ridge Hayashi of Honolulu, Kelsie, Kristin and Kayla Groenleer of Lihu‘e; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 12, at St. Theresa Church in Kekaha. Visitation will be from 8 to 10 a.m. with Mass to be held at 10 a.m.
Burial to follow at Kekaha Cemetery.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary, Ltd.
Henry Arruda
Henry Arruda of Lihu‘e died at Wilcox Memorial Hospital on March 3, 2011, at age 90. Born in Kealia, Kaua‘i on Feb. 7, 1921, he retired as a maintenance supervisor at the Hanama‘ulu Shop with Lihu‘e Sugar Plantation.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Arruda of Lihu‘e; daughter, Nadine (Darrell) Horner of Lihu‘e; sons, Darryl Arruda of Hilo, Kelly (Linda) Arruda of California; brothers, Tony Arruda of Kapa‘a, Johnny Arruda of Honolulu; sisters, Lydia Rodrigues of Lihu‘e, Florence Carvalho of California; sister-in-law, Patsy Lopez of Hanama‘ulu; brother-in-law, Vincent (Helen) Sa of California; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, March 8, at Immaculate Conception Church with visitation from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens.
