Marc Guyot earns HR certification
Deputy County Attorney Marc Guyot recently earned certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
Guyot, who is assigned to labor and employment cases for the county, expects that his completion of the SPHR program will fortify his ability to assist the county in these areas.
“My hope is that with a better understanding of current HR policies, methodologies and best practices, I can help the county be proactive in meeting the needs of its employees and avoid costly litigation in these areas,” said Guyot.
County Attorney Al Castillo noted that with the county’s large workforce, there are bound to be human resource issues that arise from time to time.
“The county’s greatest and largest asset is its workforce,” said Castillo. “Having our attorneys well-trained in human resources will allow our office to properly address issues that arise in this area.”
Over the last three months, Guyot spent several weekends on O‘ahu taking classes at the University of Hawai’i as well as completing six study modules in preparation for the SPHR exam.
He was one of two applicants out of eight students who passed the rigorous SPHR examination that was administered on O‘ahu by the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI).
“Certification as a human resource professional clearly demonstrates Marc’s commitment to personal excellence and to the human resources profession,” said Mary Power, HRCI executive director.
