Team Lihu‘e split its series against Papalina, and Hanakila continues its strong showing, Saturday at the county’s Department of Parks and Recreation 11 and Under Winter basketball league.
Playing at the Kilauea Neighborhood Center, Hanakila took a 37-17 win over Westside Basketball behind the strong showing of Daniel Yabes netting 10 points, Lexton Camat adding nine points and Triston Inanod Hawelu finishing with eight points.
Westside Basketball was led by Kelly Ragasa and Avery Miguel posting eight and seven points, respectively.
Papalina-Blue opened its series against Team Lihu‘e 2 with a 34-22 win, but Team Lihu‘e 1 redeemed that loss with a 39-30 edge over Papalina-White.
Michael Dasalia set the pace for Team Lihu‘e 1 with 18 points followed by Brennan Suniga adding 11 points.
Travis Miguel finished with a game-high 19 points to lead the Papalina whiteshirts followed by Trey Taba ending with five points.
Papalina-Blue saw Noah Sasil reign with 17 points followed by Taylon Yadao and Rhylen Yadao-Purisima finishing with seven and six points, respectively.
Team Lihu‘e 2 got 10 points from Tahj Mapuhi and four from Blaise Banquel.
The two girls team in the 11 and Under field split its series, Hinarava Tafiti leading the Kamikaze with nine points in its 30-19 win over the West Kaua‘i Hornets who got seven points from Irish Pascua. Devon Ramos and Ali‘i Emayo added four points apiece while Ayzlin Kealoha-Albarado boosted the Kamikaze win with six points.
Kicah Acoba topped the Lepo Ula in its 34-30 edge over Kaulupono, the Pedro Saligumba-coached team getting 15 points from Shania Kahepu‘u. Jasmine Santella and Kiarra Palacio each finished with eight points in the effort while Carl Mecham bolstered Acoba’s lead with 11 points.
Hunter Bethal, Kurt Napoleon and Thomas Yam set the pace for the Kaua‘i Ballers in its 41-20 win over Team Central in the day’s opener. Bethal finished with nine points followed by Napoleon with eight and Yam finishing with seven.
Kaimi Texeira and Bryce Johnson-Cormack led Team Central with seven points apiece.
During the Thursday night outing at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center, the Kamikaze got six points from Sierra Fernandez and five points from Chyna Hanano in its 23-7 win over Team Central who was led by three points from Johnson-Cormack.
Texeira and Hunter Yoshioka each finished with pairs in that effort while Tafiti notched five marks for the Kamikaze.
Yam took the lead for the Kaua‘i Ballers in its 46-31 win over Team Lihu‘e 1 with 17 points followed by Bethal adding 16 points and Napoleon ending with seven marks.
Karl Dante led the Team Lihu‘e 1 effort with 10 points followed by Suniga adding nine and Dasalia ending with eight points.
Zechariah Ponting set the pace for the Westside Basketball’s 32-21 win over the West Kaua‘i Hornets in the final game before the tsunami warnings kicked in.
D.J. Pabre ended the night with six points with Antonio Pope Jr. and Kelly Ragasa each adding five points to the Westside victory.
Pascua finished with a game-high 22 points for the Hornets’ effort followed by Ramos adding four points and Emayo ending with a pair.
The 11 and Under league continues play Monday and Tuesday nights with three games at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center starting at 6 p.m.
Team Lihu‘e opens against the West Kaua‘i Hornets starting at 6 p.m., Monday followed by Hanakila taking on Papalina-White at 7 p.m. Team Central goes up against Westside Basketball in the 8 p.m. finale.
