WAIMEA — A water outage is scheduled in Waimea from 9 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday.
The outage is necessary to allow the water department to connect newly installed waterlines to the existing water system in the area.
Customers on Ala Wai Road from Kaumuali‘i Highway to Waimea Road, and Waimea Road from the Panako Road junction to Ala Wai Road, will be affected by the water outage.
Improvements in the Waimea area are part of Water Plan 2020, a comprehensive, long-range planning effort to ensure that safe, affordable and sufficient drinking water is provided to Kaua’i residents over the next two decades, a Kaua‘i County press release said.
Goodfellow Brothers, contractors for the Department of Water, will be completing the tie-in of the newly installed water lines.
Traffic may be impeded from 7 p.m. Thursday, when set up and staging for this project will begin. Motorists are advised to exercise caution when driving through the affected area, specifically at the intersection of Ala Wai and Waimea Roads.
