The traditional Mexican restaurant La Bamba has been around for 16 years. It first opened in Rice Street in Lihu‘e, and 10 years ago it moved to Kukui Grove Center, its present location.
Mexican food can be quite hot. If you want a refreshing drink, owner Ana Muñoz has just what you need: the “Fruit Spritzer.”
Many regulars who frequent La Bamba don’t need to look at the menu or even order their food. Ana always remembers what her loyal customers want.
Sharon and Doug Gibson, of Koloa, are two of those customers, and they swear La Bamba has the best Mexican food on this island.
Latin dance teacher Britany Holmgren was there for the first time. She cooled off with the “Fruit Spritzer” and fell in love with La Bamba’s atmosphere and delicious food.
Britany has been dancing Latin rhythms for as long as she can remember. The redhead, who is originally from Utah, teaches rumba and East Coast swing Mondays on the North Shore.
On April 6 Britany will start a salsa dancing class on Wednesday evenings at the newly opened Golden Lotus dance studio in Kapa‘a. She will also be teaching Latin styling and techniques. Call 346-2555 for more information about the classes.
And if you go to La Bamba, try to convince Ana and her husband to hit the dance floor. Rumor has it that both are excellent dancers.
La Bamba is open every day 11 a.m.-9 p.m.
