LIHU‘E — Kaua‘i High School and Island School tennis swept their respective series, Saturday, in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation tennis matches.
Kaua‘i, hosting Waimea High School at the Kaua‘i Lagoons courts, took its series, 5-0 for the Boys and 4-1 for the Girls.
Island School, hosting Kapa‘a High School at the Kaua‘i Community College tennis courts, edged out the Warrior boys, 3-2 and the Voyager women prevailed, 4-1 over Kapa‘a.
Island School Boys
Kapa‘a’s Chas Okamoto, playing in the Boys first singles, defeated Sam Dunham of Island School, 6-0, 6-3, and the Warrior pair of Ryan Lopez and Jarrod Shinn rebounded from a 0-6 first set loss to Island School’s Ben Steuri and Brandon Taylor to take the remaining sets, 6-3, 6-3.
The Voyager pair of Jeremy Randolph-Flagg and Logan Domingo led the Island School boys in the first doubles, defeating Reggie Agaran and Justin Medina, 6-0, 6-0.
Ryan Perez, playing the Boys second singles, defeated Shaun Rabaino, 6-1, 6-0, and in the Boys third doubles, Voyagers Aidan Dungan and Christian Potter defeated Kalani Murakami and Charles Kong, 6-4, 6-4.
Island School’s Keoni Boemer and Kailer Dibona defeated Andrew and Jonathan Obiano, 6-0, 6-1 in the exhibition match.
Island School Girls
The Girls second doubles team from Kapa‘a, Kaylie Nakamura and Jassarie Taeza, were the sole Warrior ladies to post a win, defeating Michaela Sullivan and Lauren Spears, 5-7, 6-2, 6-0.
Madison Duarte defeated Jamie Brun, 6-0, 6-0 and April Oo downed Joni Esaki 6-1, 6-0 to give Island School its singles win.
Megan Perius and Haley Uliana teamed for the Island School Girls first doubles and defeated Alexsis Valdez and Sierra Mayer, 7-6(7-4), 5-7, 6-4.
Sisters Lauren and Joy Claypoole teamed for the Island School Girls third doubles to defeat Kara Lee Higa and Sawalak Khae-Chawat (Bee), 7-6(7-4), 4-6, 6-4.
Kaua‘i Boys
Matthew Kanna defeated Joshua Quinlan, 6-2, 6-0 to set the stage for the Kaua‘i sweep and Jerik Centeno, playing the Boys second singles, defeated Andrew Dutton, 6-0, 6-1 in Boys singles matches.
B.J. Kai, rebounding from his loss against Island School last week, teamed with Otis Llewellyn in the Boys first doubles to down Bradley Cano and John Gawaran, 6-1, 6-1.
Matthew Mizukami teamed with Lance Matsumoto to defeat the Waimea duo of John Villanueva and Kaleo Hauata, 6-2, 6-2 and in the third doubles, Rad Floria and Kevin Jian took three sets to defeat Mark Razalan and Chris Ajimura, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Kaua‘i’s Justin Fujikawa and John Quisel defeated Chris Ajimura and Chris Corpuz, 8-5 in an exhibition doubles match.
Kaua‘i Girls
Brittney Barreira, playing the Girls second singles, posted the only Waimea win after besting Shay Orial,
6-3, 6-3.
Sarah Kukino rebounded from her opening loss to Lani Rae Green, a recent semifinalist in the Charity Doubles tournament, to finish strong in the Girls singles, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Jennifer Grady and Jasmine Ikeda teamed up for the Girls first doubles to defeat Dessa Rentrop and Rachel Umetsu, 6-4, 6-1.
Raisa Carlos teamed with Kari Noe in the Girls second doubles to defeat Waimea’s Annalissa Hartsell and Brittney Palencia, 6-4, 6-2 and in the third doubles, the Raider pair of Jaimee Gali and Gilian Gregorio needed three sets to take Shantel Rita and Mary Yasay, 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-2.
Kaua‘i’s Danika Thompson and Gilian Gregorio defeated Shalyn Jin and Kim Percival, 8-3 in a doubles exhibition, and in a mixed doubles exhibition, Kurt and Kari Noe of Kaua‘i paired to defeat Annalisa Hartsell and Indira Safadi, 8-3.
Kaua‘i will next host Kapa‘a, Saturday at the Kaua‘i Lagoons courts and Waimea will host Island School at the Hanapepe tennis courts. Both matches start at 10 a.m.
