PO‘IPU — Kama‘aina and Kaua‘i residents have a few more days before rates increase for the 2011 Kaua‘i Marathon scheduled for Sept. 4, starting at 6 a.m.
Kama‘aina rates for the Half Marathon are $75 until Thursday and will increase to $105 Friday, states a release from The Kaua‘i Marathon.Non-kama‘aina and active military rates are $95 until Thursday, increasing to $125, Friday.
Kama‘aina and active military rates for the Full Marathon are $115 until Thursday, increasing to $135 thereafter.Regular rates for the Full Marathon are $200, increasing to $225 on Friday.
A 4-Person Marathon Relay is new for the 3rd Annual Kaua‘i Marathon with kama‘aina and active military rates at $280 for a 4-person team until Thursday, increasing to $325 starting Friday. Regular rates for the 4-Person Marathon Relay are $400 until Thursday, increasing to $500 Friday.
Registration for the Kaua‘i Marathon relay team can be done through the Kaua‘i Marathon website through Active.com and any changes to the confirmed relay team registration will incur a $20 change fee and must be requested in writing.
The 4-Person Relay team can be either male, female, coed and corporate and covers the 26.2-mile course only. At least two women must be part of the coed division.
Leadoff runners in the relay team start with the other marathon runners at 6 a.m. in front of Keoki’s Paradise restaurant on Po‘ipu Road.
The first leg of the relay covers the start to the intersection of Oma‘o Road and Kaumuali‘i Highway, a distance of 8.6 miles.
‘Oma‘o Road to the Lawa‘i Cannery, a distance of 5.1 miles, makes up the second leg, and the third leg starts at Lawa‘i Cannery, running through the Kalaheo loop, returning to the Lawa‘i Cannery, a distance of 7.4 miles.
The final leg goes from Lawa‘i Cannery to the finish line, a distance of 5.1 miles.
