KALAHEO — “Kevin and Kyle Go Green,” a video created by Waimea High School student Kevin Killermann, won second place in the national Planet Connect Get Green Video Contest, a news release states.
Nearly 150 high school students from across the country answered the challenge of “Show Us Your Ocean Connection” by entering videos that raise awareness about the importance of our oceans and how everyday actions affect the ocean, whether you live on the coast or 1,000 miles from the sea.
As the second-place winner, Killermann won a Samsung HMW-T10 HD Camcorder. His video will be shown at the Newport Beach Film Festival in Los Angeles, Calif., and in the Hawai‘i Oceans Film Festival in May, the release states.
The video contest gave students the chance to demonstrate their creative abilities and environmental knowledge as they produced thirty-second to two-minute videos for the Planet Connect judging panel. The videos of this year’s 15 finalists were viewed over 10,000 times and voted on by nearly 1,000 people, the release states.
“The Planet Connect video contest gives teens the opportunity to provide positive solutions to today’s environmental challenges. Students around the country have amazed us with their imagination, humor and commitment to educating their peers about environmental issues,” said Diane Wood, president of the National Environmental Education Foundation.
