Treysen Barretto took two heats to capture the 85cc class at the Kaua‘i Motocross Riders Association’s third race this year, April 17 at the Wailua Motocross Track.
Brian Barretto of KMRA said Treysen was participating in one of the larger classes of the event with 11 riders. He also went on to take the overall win in the Open B Class in almost ideal racing weather which held until the break.
“A couple of rain clouds came rolling in which made for some interesting racing,” Brian said in a release.
Following Treysen in the 85cc class, Bryzen Cadiz, David Dabin, Kai Haughland, Bryson Yoro, Dusten Burdett, Hayden Merkel, Shiloh Nobriga-Harper and Donaven Gomes filled in the leaderboard.
Chayse Garcia held the lead in two motos on the Keiki Track but could not stop Tyler Hirakawa who passed Garcia for the overall win in the 50cc A Class. Richard Silliman claimed the trophy in the 50cc B Blass and Talan Goias-Arzadon topped a field of eight riders in the 50cc C Class.
Following Goias-Arzadon, Po‘okela Silva, Adam Martin, Samaria Kelley, Kamu Santiago, Jahzi Dotimas-Batangan, Lachlan Proffitt and Edward Silliman rounded out the leaderboard.
Puna Gallardo came from behind to capture the second moto and the 250 Expert class, relegating Brian Medeiros, winner of the first moto, to second place. Chava Greenlee rounded out that class’ leaders.
David Amorin’s family went home with two trophies as Teagan Amorin captured top honors in the 65cc class while David ended topping the Masters division over Jeff Gallardo, Craig Arzadon, Ethan Kelley and Jim Littlefield.
Teagan’s class saw David Dabin, Chysen Barretto, Traytin Barretto, Trevlen Burdett, Kory Bunao and Richard Silliman fill the leaderboard.
Irwin Santiago topped the Quad class, an event which Brian Barretto described as having lead changes on every lap, but when the dust settled, Santiago emerged with the trophy over Robert Yoro and Sheldon Garcia.
Cris North owned the 125cc Amateur class over Kimo Azares, Sam Skinner and Shalea Kelley and Randall Osakoda topped the 250cc Amateur class over Darrell Dabin, Efren Taylan, Art Rosqueta and Randy Alcantara.
“There were lots of newcomers who came to race at this third race of the year,” Brian said. “We have seen a definite increase in dirt bike riders, not only at the races, but on the weekends and holidays for practices.”
Brian attributes this increase in ridership to the new Amateur Style National Motocross Track which was approved at the start of the year by KMRA President Paul Medeiros who described the course as “fast, fun and a safe track to ride on.”
KMRA will host its next race on May 22 at the Wailua Motocross Track.
In the meantime, Brian invites all dirt bike riders to come and ride the track which is open Saturdays, Sundays and all state and county holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Practice fees are collected at the gate and more information on KMRA membership, riding fees and safety requirements can be obtained by calling Medeiros at 635-2138, or email kmra2011@hotmail.com.
