Selection criteria is based primarily on athletic achievement with character, academic record and community service taken into consideration.
A total of 12 senior student-athletes will be inducted following a thorough selection process, May 14 and 15 by a 14-person committee comprised of athletic directors, administrators, coaches and members of the media, states a release from the HHSAA.
The formal induction will take place at a June 5 Hall of Honor awards banquet at the Sheraton Waikiki.
Accompanying the induction into the Hawai‘i High School Hall of Honor, each of the student-athletes receives a $1,000 college scholarship, which can be used to offset college education expenses including tuition, books and room and board expenses.
The Hall of Honor was established in 1982 by the Nissan Motor Corp. in Hawai‘i to recognize athletic excellence and accomplishments of Hawai‘i’s high school athletes. In 2004, Nissan Hawai‘i turned the high school scholarship program over to the HHSAA Foundation to maintain the tradition.
