NAWILIWILI — The Kaua‘i County Council will meet at 4:30 p.m. today to appoint Derek Kawakami’s successor.
The term for the vacant seat on the seven-member legislative body expires Dec. 3, 2012.
County officials have said privately that as many as nine residents have applied for the job, but all the names were not disclosed.
Gov. Neil Abercrombie appointed Kawakami to fill state Rep. Mina Morita’s seat in the Legislature. She left her long-time position as 14th District representative to serve as chief of the Public Utilities Commission.
