The weekly 18 and over event Bliss Fridays, held at Richie’s Bar & Grill and Restaurant 2978, showcased a pajama party-themed affair titled the “Victoria’s Secret Edition”.
Guys expecting a free lingerie show didn’t quite get what they wanted, but they can’t complain much. Out of the hundreds present that evening of April 15, I counted less than twenty ladies adorned in one, or a combination, of the following garments: bustiers, corsets, nighties, slips, and fishnet and lace stockings.
Most females preferred to use their usual weekend dancing attire and I did not see one male dressed in pajama pants, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some passed out with the very same clothes they went out with that night.
The lines leading to the entrances of 2978 (18+) and Richie’s (21+) were either non-existent or not long at all.
Combined with no belligerent incidents, Bliss’ pajama party, though short on the pajamas, was nothing to sleep on.
Accompanying the images taken by event photographer Mr. Mori of Hi Underground, the following text is a time log of my experience.
11:00 pm — Most of the approximately 30 patrons in Richie’s Bar & Grill are talking story and dining.
A pack of dancers have yet to form on either dance floor of the two establishments.
12:00 am — It is finally cool for most Kauaians to make their entrance. The 21+ side is getting crowded to a point where it is troublesome to order drinks. The bar in the lounge area of Restaurant 2978 conveniently handles the overflow.
12:30 am — There are now about 10 girls on the 18+ dance floor, still no men have stepped up to the plate. Reminds me of middle school dances we had in the gymnasium.
The number of people in the Bar & Grill has more than doubled since the last time I checked.
12:50 am — Both areas are now sufficiently occupied, but still easy to maneuver from room to room.
Amid the fog and lights of 2978’s dance area, a lady wearing a Victoria’s Secret brand sleep tee shirt, printed in bold letters: “LET’S GET NAKED”, decides to reveal her true outfit for this soiree. Enough inhibitions lost, she removes the long shirt, revealing a see-through slip, her assets covered with undergarments that would turn heads at the beach.
1:30 am — The dance floor located in Richie’s mellows down and the lights turn on, which is the universal sign for “you don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here”. As for the patrons of 2978, about 40 people are still dancing, maximizing whatever little time DJ Sketch has left to spin tracks.
