Monday may seem like the worst day of the week for office worms. But not on Kaua‘i, at least not at Trees Lounge in Waipouli.
Monday nights at Trees always draw a large crowd, hypnotized by the fantastic sound that a regular band, a band with no name, has been creating there since day one of this hip bar.
Trees has been open for a little over three years. The band, which calls itself The Trio for absolute lack of an agreement among its talented members, asked the owners to give them the worst night of the week to play a regular gig.
Owners Mark and Candice Myers got The Trio what they wished for, and let them have Monday nights. Ron Rhoades, Randy Carnevalli and Dan “The Man” did not let them down, creating some of the most amazing sounds, and drawing crowds on those otherwise boring nights.
About a year and half or so ago, Jeff Caldwell replaced Dan, something most thought it was impossible. But Jeff helped the band achieve yet another level, with his acrobatic and whole-hearted performances.
Those guys swear they never rehearse. At first it might be hard to believe. But if you’re one of those who keep saying “Thank God it’s Monday” just for the sake of checking out Monday nights at Trees, you’ve probably already noticed those guys play an ever changing repertoire.
The band plays every Monday at 8:30 p.m. until close.
The swank lounge offers Jamaican, New Orleans and Hawaiian food, all pupu style. The walls always feature local artists, and the artwork is usually for sale.
