There will be a Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation playoff for the 2011 title, Wednesday starting at 5:30 p.m. at Isenberg Park in Lihu‘e.
Kaua‘i High School, needing a sweep to clinch the championship Saturday, faltered on the pitcher’s mound and Waimea High School capitalized, marking six runs in the second inning en route to a 15-5 win in five innings of the opening game, which was called via the 10-run rule.
With the win, Waimea locked up the second round to force a playoff for the title against Kaua‘i, holder of the first-round title.
Kaua‘i came back in the second game with a solid 19-4 win over Waimea in another 10-run rule, five-inning affair.
Ross Shimabukuro, the Kaua‘i High School athletic director, said following the Wednesday playoff title, the KIF winner will advance to the Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Datahouse Division I and II softball championships, May 3 through 6.
The loser of the Wednesday playoff game will face an Interscholastic League of Honolulu team Saturday at a site to be determined, the winner of that game also advancing to the state championships.
