NAWILIWILI — Kaua‘i High School tennis swept its matches over Kapa‘a with 4-1, 4-1 wins in both the boys and girls play, Saturday at the Kaua‘i Lagoons tennis courts.
Results from the Island School and Waimea competition in the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation tennis season at the Hanapepe tennis courts were not available at press time.
Jennifer Grady was apprehensive about being moved from the Girls first doubles to the Girls second singles court, but those fears were waylaid as she took her matches 6-0, 6-2 over Jaimie Brun.
Similarly, Shay Orial moved from the Girls second singles court to the Girls first singles slot where she overcame Sawalak Khae-Chawat, 6-0, 6-2.
Sarah Kukino, normally anchoring the Girls first singles court, replaced Grady as Jasmine Ikeda’s partner on the Girls first doubles court where they bested the Kapa‘a pair of Alexsis Valdez and Sierra Mayer before a good fan base, 6-2, 6-1.
Kaylie Nakamura and Jazzerrie Taeza had the attention of the Kapa‘a coaches who watched the Girls second doubles team cop its only win in the girls’ series, 7-5, 6-1 over the Red Raider duo of Kari Noe and Gilian Gregorio.
Kaua‘i’s Jaimee Gali and Danika Thompson completed the girls’ win by defeating the Kapa‘a team of Kara Lee Higa and Anuhea Panui, 6-1, 6-1.
Noe Murray and Noe paired to defeat Kapa‘a’s Taylor Anama and Nicold Beffelli, 8-1 in the first of two exhibition games and Kaua‘i’s Gregorio and Orial teamed to get past Valdez and Anama, 8-3 to round out the girls play.
Kapa‘a’s Chas Okamoto kept his winning steak alive with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kaua‘i’s Otis Llewellyn on the Boys first singles court.
Jerik Centeno marked a 6-0, 6-2 win over Kapa‘a’s Shawn Rabaino on the Boys second singles court.
Kaua‘i’s Matthew Kanna teamed with Lance Matsumoto for a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kapa‘a’s Reggie Agaran and Justin Medina to open the action on the Boys doubles courts, this win coming in the Boys first doubles.
Matthew Mizukami teamed with Rad Floria to defeat Kapa‘a’s Ryan Lopez and Jarrod Shinn, 6-1, 6-1, and the Raider pair of Justin Fujikawa and Kevin Jian defeated the Warrior duo of Kalani Murakami and Charles Kong, 6-1, 6-0 on the Boys third doubles court.
The Fujikawa-Jian team also got past the Kapa‘a pair of Agaran and Medina, 8-3 in the first of two boys exhibition games.
Kapa‘a’s team of Lopez and Murakami overcame the Kaua‘i pair of Mizukami and John Quisel, 8-6 in the second exhibition match.
Kaua‘i next takes on Island School at the Kaua‘i Community College tennis courts, Saturday with a noon start due to ACT testing.
Kapa‘a hosts Waimea at the Kapa‘a High School courts starting at 10 a.m.
