Island Air converts awards to miles
Effective May 2, Island Air’s Cloud 9 Customer Rewards program will be converting from a point system to a mileage system. For every flight flown, members will receive 500 miles, credited for a flight flown on a full one-way ticket.
Existing points will be converted to its equivalent amount of miles; for example, seven points would equal 3,500 miles and 4,500 miles or nine flown flights may be redeemed for a free one-way inter-island flight.
“Our Cloud 9 Program was warmly welcomed by our frequent fliers when we launched it in 2006,” Lesley Kaneshiro, Island Air’s CEO, said in a press release. “The conversion from points to miles means we will be able to offer more options to our loyal customers as we work to expand program benefits and increase membership value.”
Cloud 9 members may check their accounts on May 3 to ensure points were converted correctly.
Jobs academy offers management training
Hale ‘Opio’s Kisha Aguiar and Kaua‘i Community College Office of Continuing Education and Training Director Dr. Bruce Getzan welcome employers to the First Jobs Academy, an Enhanced Management Training for employers who work with child welfare involved youth.
Made possible through a grant from the Victoria and Bradley Geist Foundation, the First Jobs Academy was developed to assure youth have a positive work experience essential to a successful transition to adult life. The preparation of employers provides positive connections with adults in the workplace through a “business mentor” relationship.
Youth learn work readiness skills needed for successful employment, reducing the prospect of homelessness and poverty during their transition phase to adulthood. Employers are satisfied with youth’s work performance, avoid costs of turnover and missed work and gain a loyal employee who is becoming a productive member of our community, a Hale ‘Opio press release states.
For more information go to www.haleopio.org or call Kisha Aguiar at 245-2873, etx. 232.
County officials, employees receive special training
A total of 24 county board and commission members and county employees recently participated in a two-part workshop on parliamentary procedure.
The first half of the workshop covered processing a main motion or resolution, basic rules of voting and debate, and the various types of motions.
Participants were then given an opportunity to practice what they learned during a mock commission meeting.
“I am extremely pleased with the level of participation at the recent training session,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. in a press statement. “It clearly shows that our volunteer Board and Commission members are dedicated and committed to doing a good job.”
The next training for Board and Commission members is scheduled for June 7, which will focus on Hawai‘i’s Sunshine Law.
