Hawai‘i to deploy customized college and career access portal
Hawai‘i Workforce Development Council, the Hawai‘i Department of Education and the University of Hawai‘i System have announced a partnership with ConnectEDU to develop web-based college and career access solutions.
ConnectEDU will collaborate with the State of Hawai‘i to develop the first statewide college and career planning web portal that utilizes student academic performance data.
Portal users may gain access to tools that support student performance and make the college application process more efficient, such as longitudinal data reporting and analytics, as well as an electronic student transcript and application exchange system, a press release said.
The objective of the web portal is to positively impact educational outcomes by using real-time student data to drive comprehensive college, financial aid and career planning for students, parents and counselors.
Additionally, the web portal will support Hawai‘i’s efforts to build a data bridge between K-12 education, higher education and employers by facilitating electronic transcript and application exchanges.
“This new platform means that Hawai‘i students, not to mention their counselors and families, will have access to a personalized online tool, which will help them manage the complex college selection and application process, including financial aid and scholarships,” said James Hardway, Hawai‘i Workforce Development Council executive director.
Craig Powell, CEO and founder of ConnectEDU, said, “ConnectEDU will provide ongoing support and training to Hawai‘i’s students, high schools, colleges and employers on how to use the new platform. We are putting the appropriate tools and knowledge in the hands of the students and those who support them.”
Hawai‘i is the fourth state that ConnectEDU has partnered with to launch a statewide college and career access portal. Launch is anticipated by the 2012 Hawai‘i school year.

$40k-marketing, advertising giveaway offered to a Hawai‘i-based nonprofit
Celebrating 20 years of operating a business in Hawai‘i, Tsunami Marketing is planning to give away $20,000 in marketing services to a Hawai‘i-based nonprofit organization. Collaborative partners will match the donation with $20,000 in marketing services.
The $40,000 worth of professional expertise covers a wide spectrum online, print and visual communication tools. Titled 20/20 Hawai‘i, the program seeks qualifying nonprofit organizations to fill in an application by June 30. The application is located at 2020hawaii.com.
Nonprofit organizations need to be established in Hawai‘i (not part of a national organization), need a 501C3 designation by the IRS, employ at least one full-time staff member and operate within a budget of $100,000 to $1,000,000 per year.
A committee made up of representatives across Hawai‘i will review applications and narrow the field to five organizations. The public will then have the chance to vote for their favorite nonprofit organization, with the winner announced in September.
Tsunami Marketing’s Managing Partner Val Rekward said, “We want to help a Hawai‘i-based nonprofit organization do something truly extraordinary for the greater Hawai‘i community.”
Tsunami Marketing is a boutique brand development agency located in Kalaheo.
