Gates to the Diesel Truck Shootout opens at 11 a.m. for racers and noon for fans and spectators, Saturday at the Kaua‘i Raceway Park in Mana.
Tech inspections start at 11 a.m. through 3 p.m. with time trials running from 2 to 6 p.m. Bracket racing starts at 7 p.m.
Hosted by the Garden Isle Racing Association, the Diesel Truck Shootout is its monthly drag race series and in addition to the diesel trucks, will feature record-holding dragsters, door slammers, muscle cars, 9-second motorcycles, imports, street, sport compact cars and Junior Dragsters piloted by childen between 8 through 18 years old.
“We can guarantee a boost showdown off the line with the Diesel Truck Shoot-out,” said Kerri Villa in an email. “Witness the brutal roar as the powers of Cummins, Duramax and Power Stroke go side by side. Your monster could be built or modified with haze smoking out the stacks, or go strictly stock.”
Admission to the night race is $12 with young people 12 and under admitted free.
Food vendors will be available to satisfy and whet appetites.
Kaua‘i Raceway Park is located on Kaumuali‘i Highway 50 about 28 miles west of Lihu‘e, past Kekaha town. Racing flags on the leftside following Mile Marker 28 indicate the entrance to the track which is located at the end of the dirt road towards the beach.
