Rose Meheula
Rose Marie Meheula aka Rose Pia died at home on April 14, 2011, at age 61. Born in Pennsylvania on July 6, 1949, she was a dedicated homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Meheula Jr.; mother, Stephania Evans; and sister, Dodi Evans.
She is survived by two sons, Jamie (Lana) Simmons and George “Brooks” (Laureen) Pia; two daughters, Keikilani (Abbie) Simmons, Pua (Clifton) Camelo and 13 grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 28, at Niumalu Beach Park at noon.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
Brian Nestel
Brian Louis Nestel of Lawa‘i died after prolonged illness on May 8, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 73. Born in Jersey City, N.J., on Dec. 9, 1937, he worked as a supervisor at the Koke‘e NASA Tracking Station. At retirement he repaired and sold computers, managing his own company, NESCO.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Nestel; two step-children, Elizabeth Smith and Barney Blankenship. Brian and Frances married in 1969.
Brian loved scenic Kaua‘i and enjoyed golfing as well as astronomy with the KESA club. He supported Frances and the Garden Island Arts Council and also provided and operated sound and video equipment six years at the E Kanikapila Kakou Hawaiian music program.
A service will be held at the Kamalani Bridge at Lydgate at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 19.
Arrangements are being handled by Garden Island Mortuary.
Tara Callison
Tara Callison of Waimea died peacefully on Feb. 18, 2011, at his home at age 79. Born in Mana, Kaua‘i, on Nov. 24, 1932, she worked for Lockheed Martin Corporation of California until her retirement in 1987 when she moved back home to Kaua‘i.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose Alviar and Josephine Villanueva; husband, Stig W. Furberg of Stockholm, Sweden; brother, Justino Cerenio of California; and sister, Trini Dumlao of Reno, Nev.
She is survived by her son, Mahlon Callison of Waimea; daughter, Tara Furberg of California; fiancé, Chad Schaefer of Redwood City, Calif.; brother, James Alviar of O‘ahu; sisters, Connie Travis of Kapa‘a, Kaua‘i; Rose Elder of Tennessee and Juanita Chandler of Waimea, Kaua‘i; one grandson; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; numerous nieces, aunts and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, May 17, at the Salvation Army Chapel in Lihu‘e, with the memorial service beginning at 4 p.m.
