Kaua‘i Knockout Championship II — named “Mortal Kombat” — was held Friday at the War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihu‘e and featured a full slate of matches, including the main event of Kaua‘i’s Tyson Hawelu taking on Colin Mackenzie for the 145-pound championship, as well as the Mixed Martial Arts debut of North Shore pro surfer Dustin Barca.
Hawelu capped off the night with a knockout victory over Mackenzie, 1:36 into the first round, to secure the title.
Barca picked up a victory over the much more experienced Micah Ige in his first MMA showing, via a rear naked chokehold in the first round.
Kaua‘i competitors went 4-4 in the night’s additional contests.
