LIHU‘E — A Gay & Robinson accounting clerk pleaded not guilty this week to charges connected to the embezzlement of more than a quarter-million dollars from the Westside sugar company.
Leilanie Coma Valenciano appeared in Fifth Circuit Court on Tuesday to face nine counts of first-degree theft and 228 misdemeanor counts of falsifying business records.
Investigators contend that she falsified the company’s accounting records in order to steal over $280,000 between April 2004 and December 2008, an Office of the Prosecuting Attorney press release states.
First-degree theft is classified as a class B felony offense, which carries a maximum fine of $25,000 and 10 years imprisonment per count. Falsifying business records is a misdemeanor offense, punishable by a maximum fine of $2,000 and up to one year imprisonment for each count.
Valenciano’s case is set for jury trial before Judge Kathleen Watanabe on Oct. 3.
