It’s about our children
Governor Abercrombie gives very entertaining speeches!
My husband and I enjoyed meeting him! A man that likes to do some of the same things I do, like sing and dance.
Same ‘ol story though … Raise Taxes and Spend More Money!
Keep spending more money and raising taxes!
Roll over, play dead? No, I don’t want the American people to do this!
Be a puppet? No, I don’t want the American people to do this, either!
Governor Abercrombie stated when he gave his eloquent speech at the Kauai Marriott on May 13, 2011, that AARP, the elderly do not care about their children!
I would first of all like to know why he made the statement that the elderly don’t care about their children?
They do care about their children, and they care about their grandchildren, and their great grandchildren. They even care for their parents and grandparents!
I am a member of a lot of things. I don’t agree with everything.
Just like I don’t agree with the things our government is doing, yet I am still proud to say I am an American.
I know what I was taught when growing up is true!
Please stop raising our taxes and spending our money.
Let’s get moving in the right direction!
Feed a man a fish and he eats for one day.
Teach a man how to fish and he lives for a lifetime.
Don’t become a government who wants to make slaves out of all of us, including our children, our grandchildren and great grandchildren.
You are right, Governor Abercrombie! It is about our children!

Did you forget your pledge?
No, I am not talking about the money we pledge to help PBS to stay alive, but I am talking about the Pledge of Allegiance that you learnt in school.
This is what the esteemed or not so esteemed members of the U.S. Government were supposed to memorize and live by too. Somehow U.S. politicians seem to suffer from selective amnesia.
The campaigns organized by the constituents to remind their elected representatives to keep their promises are a living proof for it. But living by the words would have favorable economic consequences too. For example, it would get the U.S. out of the budget crisis too. How?
It is very simple. After President Obama’s speech to the nation in support of the freedom fighters in Libya the U.S. froze the assets of the Libyan government, because government troops killed unarmed protesters demonstrating for their liberty and for democratic changes.
He also initiated a no-fly zone, the operation of which he passed on to the NATO, some say that for lowering the risks for his 2012 election campaign. The indiscriminate bombing of Libya “to save civilian lives” is still going on and the U.S. supplies military hardware and money for it. But there are other events popping up almost every day around the world. The Syrian government is killing protesters, the Bahrain and the Saudi governments too, the Yemeni government does the same thing, and now Israeli government troops killed more than a dozen unarmed demonstrators, with many children among them. Where is the presidential speech in the defense of these protesters, Mr. Obama? Where is the no-fly zone recommendation by you, provided you don’t have double standards? The no-fly zone over Libya is nonsense too. Why not scrap it then?
Freezing the assets might work in these cases very well. Imagine the amount of money that the U.S. could put its hands on from Saudi Arabia, Syria, Yemen, Israel, Jordan etc. That might be a solution to the U.S. budget crisis, because these governments are not likely to change course anyway. In case of Jordan, Israel, Saudi Arabia the U.S. would get back billions of our taxpayers’ money sent to these countries in form of USAID.
That may even help to raise the 46 million Americans from below their current poverty level. And it would take just remembering your pledge, Mr. Obama. No clue? Let me remind you of its ending: ” … with liberty and justice for all.”

Who will represent them?
The mayor and County Council are faced with a moral choice. Whether to have a huge increase in the county budget when most other governments are reducing expenditures in light of the current fiscal picture.
Last week the government announced that inflation is at 5 percent. Gas and food prices have risen, even at the farmers markets. HMSA has raised rates.
Our taxes have been raised to pay for trash collection. Shipping costs are now being raised again which will further increase our costs for everything.
Seniors are especially hard hit since there has been no increase in Social Security payments, but the Medicare deductions have increased. Some have had to cancel their hurricane insurance and many other costs.
But the County wants to subsidize for the pleasure of a few the golf course, marathons, recreation, travel, etc. The mayor wants to add additional people to help him do his work which hasn’t increased over the last two mayors.
So as the taxes go up the hardships will increase for the middle class workers. And renters will find the tax increase passed on in higher rents.
Of course those running the county won’t feel any hardship on their high salaries. They won’t be required to share in the sacrifice. And the people with real jobs aren’t free to attend daytime meetings. So who will represent them?
