Kaua‘i Junior Bowlers brought home gold from two recent tournaments.
Vanessa Chang, one of the program’s leaders, said the Kaua‘i Junior Bowlers took first place with a team score of 2663 during the Greater Hawai‘i United States Bowling Congress Youth Tournament in the Senior Handicap Division.
They followed that accomplishment in February by showing strong at the Hawai‘i State Pepsi Youth Tournament which was held in April on O‘ahu at the Schofield Bowling Center.
Michael Tabata, a familiar name with the Kaua‘i High School bowling program, led the Kaua‘i Junior Bowlers by taking first place in the Boys 12-19 HDCP division, rolling a 1533 pinfall ahead of Tazman Shim of Hickam (1456).
Gabrielle Buist, not only a strong name in bowling, but a consistent Junior Dragster driver with the Garden Island Racing Association at the Kaua‘i Raceway Park, earned third place in the Girls 12-19 HDCP Division with a solid 1466 total.
Angelika Question finished seventh in the Girls 12-19 HDCP Division and Darcie Vea brought home eighth place in the Girls 12-19 HDCP Division.
Joanna Chang, a consistent leader for the Kapa‘a High School girls bowling team through the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation season, joined Caleb Keohohou at the Pepsi tournament.
The Kaua‘i Junior Olympic Bowling Program was started in 1990 and is geared for youth between 7 through 20 years old.
Youth are accepted at all levels of experience, and many continue on to bowl at the high school level in the KIF, Vanessa pointed out.
The Kaua‘i Junior Olympic Bowling Program is a year-round program and bowlers meet almost each Saturday at the Lihu‘e Bowling Center starting at 9 a.m.
For more information, people can just show up and speak with any of the leaders during the Saturday bowls.
