Avelina Villanueva
Avelina Villanueva of Kaumakani died April 24, 2011, at The Queen’s Medical Center at age 66. Born in Gapang Pilar, Abra Philippines on Jan. 13, 1945, she was a laborer with Pioneer Hybrid.
She is survived by her husband, Rogelio Villanueva; sons, Sandy (Aida) Villanueva, Marlon (Rosalie) Villanueva, Roldan (Lilibeth) Villanueva, Ronald (Olive) Villanueva, Rick (Irene) Villanueva and Reynante (Roxanne) Villanueva; daughters, Annalyn (Michael) Caberto and Pilita (Ernesto) Talingdan Jr.; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three half-sisters in the Phillipines; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, at the ‘Ele‘ele Sacred Hearts Catholic Church; Mass at 11 a.m., followed by burial at the Hanapepe Public Cemetery.
Casual attired is suggested.

Daniel Rivera
Daniel Rivera Sr. of ‘Ele‘ele died April 15, 2011, at his home at age 82. Born Jan. 3, 1929, in Koloa, he retired as a harvesting crane operator with McBryde Sugar Plantation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Ramona Rivera; sister, Antonia Figaroa; and brothers, Perfecto Rivera, Isidro “Kalalau” Rivera, George Rivera and Rudy Rivera.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Jane Rivera of ‘Ele‘ele; sons, Zeebedee (Raleen) of York, NE, Daniel (Melissa) Rivera, Jr. of Koloa, Mario (Rondalynn) Rivera of Pepeekeo, Big Island; daughter, Jan (Amador) Jacinto of York, NE; sister, Lucille “Lucy” Santiago of El Paso, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 14, at St. Raphael’s Church with visitation at 9 a.m. and Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home assisted the Rivera family with arrangements.
Emma McCoy
Emma Rose Kilioulanihoopiiwahinekeakaleihilinakapualokeokalaniakea McCoy died April 29, 2011, at her home at age 58. Born in Nanakuli, O‘ahu on Aug. 8, 1952, she worked for school security at Waimea Canyon Middle School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Mildred McCoy; brother, Michael McCoy and sister, Doris McCoy.
She is survived by her companion and caregiver, Francine S; sisters, Patricia “Cookie” McCoy, Crystal “Kehaulani” (Dawn) McCoy, Quezal “Kuuipo” (George) Cooper; brothers, Lester “Bully” McCoy, Patrick “O’Brien” (Fran) McCoy, Johnnie “O’Day” (Odette) McCoy, Ray “Kaae” McCoy; Akana Ohana in Waimea, Chugga family in Texas, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The scattering of her ashes will be done in Nanakuli “Depots” at a later date.
Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home assisted the McCoy family with arrangements.
George Ouye
George M. Ouye of Lihu‘e died May 4, 2011, at his home at age 85. Born in Nawilwili on May 25, 1925, he was a grounds maintenance worker with County of Kaua‘i, Wailua Gold Course.
He is survived by his brother, Llewellyn Ouye of New York; sister, Margaret M. Kamiya of Wahiawa, O‘ahu; nieces nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the Kapa‘a Jodo Mission; service officiated by Rev. Akiya will begin at 11 a.m. luncheon to follow.
Casual attire is suggested and flowers omitted.

Mauro Cadavona
Mauro Rivera Cadavona of Kekaha, Kaua‘i died May 1, 2011, at Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital at age 89. Born in the Philippines on May 6, 1921, he worked for Olokele Sugar Plantation as a journeyman mechanic and retired in 1983. After retirement, he was a bus driver for the Office of Elderly Affairs and then became an activity manager of the Kaumakani Senior Center.
He was recognized in the “Star Bulletin’s Men and Women of Hawai‘i 1972” for his significant involvement and contribution in educational, religious, civic and cultural fields. These include: Kaumakani Methodist Church member and Administrative Board Chairman, Kaumakani School PTA President, Union Insurance Service Ltd. agent, WWII Platoon Sergeant in PI, Kaua‘i Filipino Community Council VP, delegate to state United Filipino Community Council, ILWU 142 Unit 3105 Advisor, Kaua‘i County Committee on Aging and delegate to State convention, Kaumakani Senior Citizens and Pension Club Association, Olokele Filipino Community Assoc. Exec. Sec., Kaumakani Federal Credit Union Credit Committee, and Banguinos Club member. He was recently recognized for his 25 years of service for Kaua‘i Retired Seniors Volunteer Program.
He was an avid gardener and basket weaver. He enjoyed participating in the Democratic Party grassroots campaigns with friends. He loved to read, dance and sing in the church choir.
He is survived by his wife, Encarnacion Ramoran Cadavona; two daughters, Delia (John) Ishibashi of Kalaheo; Florence (John) Langaman of Hanapepe; one son, Edwin (Ann) Cadavona of Tustin, Calif.; one brother, Andrew (Brenda) Cadavona of Norwalk, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Kristyn and Britney Ishibashi, Jessica and Taylor Langaman, Alyssa, Kyle and Cory Cadavona.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, May 14, at Kekaha Methodist Church from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. where services will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Kekaha Public Cemetery.

Lorraine “Aunty Lorraine” Ililani Lanning of Wanini, Kaua‘i died May 3, 2011, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at age 75. Born on O‘ahu on May 25, 1935, she was head of the department at Princeville Nursery and also employed at the Menehune Food Mart, Kilauea.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Carrie Lanning.
She is survived by her hanai daughter (niece), Bridgette “Maile” Lanning; grandson, Makana Moreno; granddaughter, Aprilani K. Montero; numerous brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, May 21, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Lihu‘e Ward. Visitation from 8 to 10 a.m. service from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial to follow at Kaua‘i Memorial Gardens, Kapaia Paina after burial at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints, Lihu‘e Ward.
