LIHU‘E — The Kaua‘i County Committee on the Status of Women is sponsoring an essay contest for girls in grades six to 12, county officials said in a news release Tuesday.
The theme for the contest is “Educate women and change the world.”
The essay must be typed, double-spaced, and no longer than 250 words. In addition, the essay must be accompanied by a title page with the student’s name, school, grade, mailing address and phone number.
Entries must be dropped off or mailed to: the Committee on the Status of Women; Office of Boards and Commissions; Mo‘ikeha Building, Suite 150; 4444 Rice Street; Lihu‘e, HI 96766.
The deadline to submit an essay is Aug. 15.
Three winners will be awarded a trip to O‘ahu to attend the Eighth annual International Women’s Leadership Conference, which will be held on Sept. 20 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.
Among the list of notable speakers that are scheduled to be at the conference are: Elim Chew; Marty Evans; Julie Gilbert; Carolyn Kepcher; Michelle Kristula-Green; Nicole Marquez; Aduei Riak; and former Gov. Linda Lingle.
