HONOLULU — Pono Tokioka, Jonathan Ota and Layne Morita are all Kaua‘i golfers advancing to the Round of 32 at the 103rd Manoa Cup on O‘ahu after their Tuesday victories.
Tokioka, surviving the opening-round qualifying with University of Hawai‘i golfer Cory Oride, another Kaua‘i native, went up against Oride in Tuesday’s Round of 64.
Oride was eliminated when Tokioka advanced 1 Up over Oride and will tee off against Lorens Chan, a 4 and 3 winner over Rudy Cabalar Jr.
Chan is a two-time Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association state golf singles champion, picking up his second title last month.
Jonathan Ota, another survivor of the opening round and the Manoa Cup champion in 2006, advanced to the Round of 32 with an 8 and 6 win over Sian Rogers and will meet Skye Inakoshi, a 4 and 2 winner over Gary Kong.
Layne Morita advances to the Round of 32 with a 3 and 2 win over Mitchell Kwee and will meet Tyler Ota, a 4 and 3 winner over Dennis Harrison.
The 103rd Manoa Cup, one of the longest-running tournaments in the state, is being played at the O‘ahu Country Club, June 13 through 18.
David Fink returns to defend his title with some of the finest amateurs in the State of Hawai‘i.
After an initial qualifying round Monday, the top 63 finishers moved on to the head-to-head bracket, seeded based on their Monday scores.
Fink, as defending champion, was the automatic top seed. Seungjae Maeng topped Monday’s leaderboard with a 3-under par 68 to be the No. 2 seed.

Loo finishes 14th at
King Auto tournament
EWA BEACH — Rilen Loo of Lihu‘e was the sole Kaua‘i golfer at the King Auto Group 12 and Under State Championship, which concluded Tuesday at the Hawai‘i Prince Golf Course in Ewa Beach, O‘ahu.
Loo, playing in the Boys 11-12 division, came back from an opening-round 85 to improve to a 77 in the final round, finishing in a tie for 14th with Andy Kang of Honolulu on a two-day total 162.
Andrew Chin of Honolulu took first place in the Boys 11-12 division in a three-hole playoff against Shon Katahira of Hilo after both golfers finished with a total 3-under par 141.
Katahira opened with a 1-over par 73 but roared back to post the best Round 2 score with a 4-under par 68 to tie with Chin, who shot a second-round 70.
Taylor John McGerity of Honolulu posted the best Round 2 score at 1-under par 71 en route to a 145 total in the Boys 7-10 division, edging out Pono Yanagi (74-72-146) of Hilo by one stroke.
Aneka Seumanutafa of Kapolei, O‘ahu, edged out Miki Manta of Honolulu by one stroke, posting a two-round total 152 (79-73) for the Girls 7-10 division.
Mari Nishimura of Mililani, O‘ahu finished with a 142 (71-71) to clinch the Girls 11-12 division eight strokes ahead of Malia Nam of Honolulu.
Girls and boys in the 7-10 division played to a 4,486 yards par 72 while girls and boys in the 11-12 division played to 5,205 yards par 72.
