The official autopsy conducted on Kaua‘i’s Andy Irons states that the star’s death was caused by both a heart attack and drugs in his system, according to an initial report by The New York Times.
Irons, 32, died in a Texas hotel room after attempting to return to Kaua‘i from a Puerto Rico surf event in November. He was reportedly ill at the event and was returning home. After failing to check out on time, he was found in his bed by hotel employees.
Bottles of prescription drugs were found in his room.
The autopsy results were given first by an Irons family publicist to The New York Times, which was followed by an official statement from the family regarding the findings. The results will not be made public by the Tarrant County (Texas) Medical Examiner’s office until June 20.
