Jean Ogawa was in Washington, D.C. last week, being honored by the National Marine Sanctuaries for her volunteer work.
But she made it back in time for Saturday’s World Oceans Day fair at the Hanapepe Public Library where librarian Karen Ikemoto said about 500 people came through in the first two hours.
Jim Jung said he went through more than 200 activity books in the first hour, and Jean Souza of the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary said a lot of the people commented
on having an event like this on the Westside.
Jean even had Ty Shitanaka, a Waimea High School graduate, helping. She said Ty is majoring in marine biology at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa.
Congratulations to the Lihu‘e Bronco All-Stars on a great win, Saturday, and to the West Kaua‘i Bronco All-Stars on being such great players so everyone could enjoy the nail-biter.
Gerald and Mia Ako were just a couple blocks too short, staying at the World Oceans Day event.
