Seven Kaua‘i golfers will be vying for a spot in the 2011 U.S. Junior Amateur starting Monday at the Makai Course in Princeville.
The Kaua‘i contingent of Kaua‘i Junior Golf Association players includes one girl, Daezsa Tomas of Lihu‘e, and six boys, including Pono Tokioka who experienced a heavy golf schedule last week, participating in the 103rd Manoa Cup and advancing through the Round of 32.
Joining Tokioka are Braeden Robley of Lihu‘e, Keegan Loo of Lihu‘e, La‘akea Warren of Kekaha, Reyn Thomas Morioka of Lihu‘e and Kenji Miyata of Kapa‘a.
Five players from Japan will also be in the field of 34 boys and 20 girls.
The sectional qualifier is a 36-hole stroke play for boys and 18-hole stroke play for the girls with the first group teeing off starting at 11:03 a.m., Monday.
Boys play for a spot in the 2011 Junior Amateur Championship which will be played at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Washington, July 18 to 23.
They will be playing to a par 72, 6,910 yards at the Princeville Makai Golf Course.
Girls will be vying for spots in the 2011 Girls Junior Amateur Championship to be played at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Illinois, July 18 to 23.
