The Aiea Blazers, coached by Rob Godinez, and the Upcountry Kings of Maui, coached by Lono Vida will join the seven-team field in the 2011 Merv Lopes Kaua‘i Hoops Classic, starting Wednesday at the Wilcox Gymnasium at Island School.
Clarence Sales, coordinator of the tournament for Team Central, said a total of 19 games will be played over four days in the 8th and 9th Grade division, and the public is invited to view the competition at no charge.
Westside Basketball under coach Dino Pabre will open the tournament at 5 p.m., Wednesday against Ho‘ouila, coached by Peter Rayno.
Kekoa Colipano will lead the Flying Hawaiians against the Aiea squad at 6 p.m. followed by AAU – Kaua‘i, coached by Clyde Vito and Ipo Yoshioka, taking on Ho‘ouila in its second game of the day starting at 7 p.m.
The nightcap at 8 p.m. features Upcountry Kings taking on Hanakila, coached by Philip Baclayon.
Pool play continues at Island School on Thursday and Friday starting at 4 p.m. with the playoffs taking place, Saturday.
Championship game is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
