LIHU‘E — A fire ravaged a Lihu‘e home Saturday afternoon, but the family inside escaped without injuries. Reported to dispatch at 2:52 p.m., county officials said, the Kaua‘i Fire Department responded to the fully involved blaze at 3211 Alohi Place.

Reported to dispatch at 2:52 p.m., county officials said, the Kaua‘i Fire Department responded to the fully involved blaze at 3211 Alohi Place.
Neighbors had alerted the family living at the single-family home that the garage was on fire, a county new release states. Two adults and three children safely exited the house.
Engine 3 from the Lihu‘e station was the first to respond, followed by Engines 2 and 5 from Kapa‘a and Kalaheo.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze while also setting up lines to protect neighboring houses on either side, the release states. The fire was deemed under control by 3:12 p.m. and was fully extinguished by 4 p.m.
Investigators were still at the scene at 5 p.m. attempting to determine the cause. The blaze apparently started in the garage and spread to the house, the release states.
An estimate of the damage was unknown at press time.
The Red Cross responded to the scene to meet with affected residents and ensure their immediate emergency needs were met.
A follow-up county news release reported the time that neighbors called dispatch as 2:56 p.m., four minutes later than the initial report. The release states that firefighters were on the scene by 2:59 p.m.
Some neighbors at the scene were overheard grumbling about the response time.
