Pono Tokioka fired three consistent rounds of 78 to finish with a total 234 to capture the Boys 15-18 division championship at the Kaua‘i Junior Golf Association 2011 Chica Ishii 54-Hole tournament, which ended during the Memorial Day.
Ron Peeren, KJGA tournament director, said the Chica Ishii tournament, named after one of the founders of KJGA, ia one of two major tournaments the organization hosts annually.
Tournament play spanned three days, concluding during the Memorial Day weekend at the Wailua Golf Course.
“We had many divisions and great scores, this year,” Peeren said in a release.
Boys 15-18 played off the Blue tees, the 13-14 Boys from the White tees, Girls from the Red tees, 11-12 division from the Red tees and the 10 and Under from the Juniors tees.
Kenji Miyata, one of the strong Kapa‘a High School golfers during the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation season, finished second in the 15-18 division, firing a 241 (81-81-79), seven strokes off the pace. Reyn Morioka (82-90-83-255), Justin Uegawa (82-92-84-258), Braeden Robley (89-84-88-261) and La‘akea Warren (89-88-86-263) rounded out that division.
Daniel Miller, taking the field for Island School during the KIF rounds, topped the 15-18 “A” Flight with a 279 (95-87-97) followed by Matthias Davis at 303 (102-105-96).
Taylor Viquelia topped the 15-18 Girls division with a 233 (81-77-75) followed six strokes back by Daezsa Tomas (74-84-81-239).
Naea Oda of Kapa‘a finished with a 262 (91-85-86) followed by Kawena Warren (125-110-97-239) in the 13-14 Girls division.
KC Loo topped the 13-14 division with a 232 (75-82-75) followed by Bryden Salvador (81-76-81-238), Kainalu Gandia (85-79-80-244) and Jamie Amimoto (87-84-86-257).
Keith Jose ended with a 277 (96-97-84) to top the 13-14 “A” Flight followed by Michael Miller (93-106-88-287) and Jacob Dysinger (107-102-106-315).
Trevor Kua ended with a 246 (84-84-78) to top the 11-12 division followed by Rilen Loo (99-88-89-276), Reece Valencia (98-95-91-284) and Salisa Pegeder (120-118-118-356).
Milburn Ho of Honolulu topped the 10 and Under division with a 268 (90-91-87) followed by Christian Ganir (107-102-96-305) and James Pratt (110-122-111-343).
The Kaua‘i Junior Golfers return to the Wailua Golf Course for the Mitchell Ota Match Play, Friday through Sunday for all ages.
