KAPA‘A — Lil Stars, the defending champions of the Keiki division, got off on the wrong foot, dropping two of its opening matches, Thursday at the All Saints Gym in Kapa‘a.
Sybil Nishioka, tournament director of the 6th Annual Fun in Fellowship Dodgeball Tournament, said Thursday night was played on a round robin format for Keiki and Youth divisions.
Friday night is for the Masters with the Championship rounds starting at 8:30 a.m., Saturday.
“We should be having the awards for the Keiki division at 11:30 a.m.,” Nishioka said. “Then, it’ll be the Youth division with their awards around 4 p.m. followed by the Masters division playing until around 9 p.m.”
Nishioka said this year’s tournament extends over three days in hopes of preventing overtime in the different divisions. The additional days allows teams to play more matches and hopefully allow more teams to participate.
The Li’l Stars, garbed in military green and its two littlest players in black, dropped its opening matches to the Pink Flamz and Head Hunters before meeting up with One Love, garbed in yellow and scrambling to meet tournament rules after some miscommunication about starting times.
There is no admission to view the games which continue throughout the day and there is a food booth available where people can whet their appetites.
