Two of Kaua‘i’s public high school cheer squads brought home hardware from the Triple A Cheer Camp on O‘ahu over the weekend.
Waimea High School cheer squad, under the coaching of Roxanne Cardejon, captured top honors in two categories, the Top of the Rock First Place Cheer and Top of the Rock First Place Dance.
The Menehune cheer squad also earned the Pride Award, the All Attitude Athletic Diva Cup Champion 2011 along with other awards in pride, leadership, skills and execution.
Three of its squad tried out and qualified for the camp’s Team Elite program, Omi Gaspar and Marissa Hesapene earning scholarships in the amounts of $500 and $1,000, respectively. Nicolei Banasihan also qualified for Team Elite.
Kaua‘i High School cheer squad, under the leadership of Avery Kano, fielded two of its pepsters to the Team Elite, Tailee Brun and Jessel Galiza, Brun also capturing the Best Jumper award for the Red Raiders.
Overall, the Kaua‘i High School squad finished with a second place, varsity, earning the HomeJAMZ award.
Kaua‘i team members include Brun, Galiza, Casey Aguano, Tobey Aguano, Tamara Akau, Seana Date, Sabrina Shofner and Mahina Tangonan.
Waimea cheer squad members include Gaspar, Hesapene, Banasihan, Nikki Vea, Bryana Resquer-Yorkman, Kaliko Waahila, Tiffany Patricio-Huddy and Kawena Warren.
