Swim Aquatics’ superstar Yasmine Ware is taking her talents to the national stage.
Ware, 14, will compete at the Speedo Junior National Swimming Championships beginning Monday in Palo Alto, Calif.
“These kids are in the top 4 percent in the nation,” Ware’s coach Billy Brown said in a press release. “Junior Nationals is a very prestigious meet and only two steps away from qualifying for the Olympic Trials.”
Over 1,700 swimmers from across the country will compete at the meet held at the Avery Aquatic Center at Stanford University. Ware is seeded 34th our of 172 girls in the 50 meter freestyle event. She will swim her first heed on Friday.
Ware qualified for the meet by posting a 26.73 in the 50 meter freestyle even at the 2011 Long Course State Swimming Championships earlier this year on Maui. Ware’s time not only qualified her for the junior tournament, but it was just .34 seconds off of qualifying for the Olympic trials in the event.
Brown, who qualified for the 2000 Olympic Trials, said Ware is just one of several swimmers from SKA that are on the verge of breaking through to the national swimming scene. Brown will accompany Ware to California for the meet, although the rest of the team can’t make it to cheer Ware on.
“Our entire Swim Kaua‘i Ohana will be there in spirit for us,” Brown said. “I am so excited for the future of what’s to come for these kids.”
