PRINCEVILLE — A cyclist was hospitalized with head injuries Wednesday morning after striking a pedestrian at the intersection of Kahaku and Wyllie roads.
The 47-year-old cyclist was heading east on Kahuku Road at around 8:51 a.m. when he struck a pedestrian crossing the road in a marked crosswalk, county officials said.
The cyclist, reportedly from Kilauea, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision and sustained major injuries to the back of his head.
He was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The pedestrian, age 23, reportedly from Princeville, sustained abrasions to his arms and hands and opted to drive himself to Mahelona Hospital.
