PO‘IPU — Sharron Weber and Tom Shigemoto were getting ready for their second straight day of golf, Sunday at the Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course.
They were among a handful of golfers who carried over from the second Kaua‘i High School Foundation tournament which played Saturday at the Wailua Golf Course.
Despite the marathon golf weekend, the 8th annual Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Golf Tournament was sold out with 85 golfers braving the early Sunday morning rain, said Carol Texeira of the Chamber.
Sophie Saindon-Davis, a 2011 graduate of Kapa‘a High School, Sarah Kukino, graduating from Kaua‘i High School, Clianne Mancia, a Waimea High School graduate, was joined by Jantill Leota, a Kaua‘i Community College student, as recipients of the 2011 Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce scholarships.
Proceeds from the tournament go toward providing scholarships for students graduating from Kaua‘i’s high schools, and this year, a KCC student was also granted a scholarship for higher education.
Pacific Service and Development, more commonly known as PS&D Napa Auto Parts and Earthworks Pacific picked up the Platinum sponsor banners for this year’s tournament.
Aqua Engineers, Belles, Graham, Proudfoot, Wilson and Chun, a law firm, the Kukui Grove Center, Ohana Pacific Management Co., Pioneer Hi-Bred International and Kukui‘ula Development Co. were the gold sponsors, Kukui‘ula offering a round of golf for four at its new The Club at Kukui‘ula for any golfer who greened the Po‘ipu Bay No. 11 during the tournament.
Other prizes included a trip for two to Las Vegas as well as cash prizes for Closest to the Hole and the Corporate Challenge where each team member used their established USGA approved handicap for a maximum of 27 for men and a maximum of 36 for women to come up with a team handicap.
Other prizes included the 8th place finisher (celebrating the 8th annual tournament) getting the top prize for the tournament as well as a random drawing for the Las Vegas trip.
