LIHU‘E — Sandy Poehnelt said they will open The Right Slice in the Puhi Industrial Park from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m., daily.
“Initially, we’ll try for the seven days a week,” Poehnelt said while showing off the Lemon Meringue Lotus Pie at the Kukui Grove Monday Market.
The pies which people have become familiar with during Poehnelt’s pop up appearances at farmers markets and various other public gatherings will now be available at 1543 Haleokana St.
The owner and baker of The Right Slice said she did some research on the National Lemon Meringue Pie Day and was surprised with the number of different days where different pies are celebrated.
“The list is a couple of pages with two columns on each page,” she said. “But I downloaded it and will keep it handy so whenever there’s a pie celebration, we’ll know about it.”
She said the Puhi bakery will be in addition to their familiar pop-up appearances at farmers markets.
“We’re going to continue on our regular appearances at the various farmers markets, including the Gourmet Market at The Shops at Kukui‘ula on Wednesdays and the Kaua‘i Community Market at the Kaua‘i Community College on Saturdays,” the master pie-maker said. “We’ll still be at the Talk Story Bookstore on Fridays. But we have new people and we’ll be able to service customers from our new Puhi home as well.”
Poehnelt said the only request she has for customers is to allow her extra time for savory pie, more commonly known as pot pie, requests.
“We like to bake everything fresh for our customers,” she said. “So, there may not be Chicken Pot Pie waiting when shoppers visit. We make them up for orders.”
