Bryden Salvador topped two Kaua‘i Junior Golf Association tournaments in as many weeks to close the summer on a high note.
Playing under windy conditions at the Po‘ipu Bay Golf Course, Salvador carded an 86 off the blue tees, breaking a tie with Keegan Loo, for top honors in the Boys 13-14 Championship flight at the KJGA Back-to-School tournament, Aug. 7.
Salvador followed that win by taking top honors in the 3-Club Tournament, Aug. 20 at the Kukuiolono Golf Course, firing a 42 in the 13-14 Championship flight, three strokes ahead of Kailanu Gandia who finished the day with a 45 off the white tees.
During the Back-to-School tourney, Loo was relegated to second followed by Gandia netting an 88 and Jamie Amimoto rounding out the flight at 96.
Reyn Morioka, recently playing in the Kaua‘i High School Foundation tournament, topped the 15-18 Championship flight with an 80 off the gold tees, challenged strong by Kenji Miyata of Kapa‘a who finished just a stroke back at 81.
Daezsa Tomas, also playing with Morioka in the KHS Foundation tourney, filled in third place off the blue tees with a 90 followed a stroke back by Kai Adachi, a Kaua‘i High School golfer, at 91.
Daniel Miller, one of the Island School golfers, broke a tie with Red Raider golfer Vance Tokita to top the Boys 15-18 “A” Flight with a 104. Matthias Davis, coming from a strong inline hockey background, followed at 105 for third place.
Na‘ea Oda of Kapa‘a topped the 13-14 “A” Flight with an 86 followed by Keith Jose (100), Michael Miller (108) and Jacob Dysinger (114).
Rilen Loo was able to get past Trevor Kua by a stroke to take the 11-12 Boys Championship flight with an 83 followed by Kua at 84 off the red tees.
Reece Valencia, topping the 12 & Under Championship flight at the 3-Club tournament with a 50, finished in third place at 92 at the Back-to-School tournament.
Samantha Nichols topped the 11-12 “A” Flight on a 119, two strokes better than Nathaniel Dama (121).
Douglas Sears topped the 10 and Under Jr. Tees with a solid 91 over Christian Ganir (104) and Niki Upson (116).
During the 3-Club tournament where players are allowed just three clubs during a nine-hole round, Gandia finished with a 45, three strokes off the pace in the 13-14 Championship flight followed by Amimoto (49), Jose (52) and Dysinger (59).
Following Valencia in the 12 and Under Championship flight at the 3-Club tourney, Upson (58) and Dama (65) rounded out the leaderboard.
The Atlanta/Kaua‘i Team Challenge 2011 will be hosting a Georgia team for the home and home event with the Atlanta Junior Golf Association and the KJGA, Oct. 8 and 9 at the Wailua Golf Course.
Mary Bea Porter-King and Ron Peeren will be captains for Team Kaua‘i.
