NUKOLI‘I — A hula dancer performed at pool’s edge at the Kaua‘i Beach Resort, Tuesday as guests made their way to the Beach Bar.

“The EDGE of Summer” Business AfterHours hosted in partnership with the Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce, the Kaua‘i Beach Resort and Pacific Edge magazine offered an afternoon of networking, fine pupu and drinks, giving guests an edge needed to advance their businesses.
The Chamber ladies, Chantal Zarbaugh and Carol Texeira, were joined by Sherryne Scalzo of Allstate Insurance in helping check in and register guests to the afternoon event hosted at poolside of one of the pool settings.
KBR Executive Chef Mark Sassone and his culinary staff turned out a selection of pupu including Blackened Chicken and Avocado Quesadillas, Fresh Fish Tacos featuring mahimahi, Barbeque Steak Sliders, Crisp Tortillas with Salsa, Guacamole and Black Bean Relish and a collection of cold canapes, Sonia Topenio of the Bank of Hawai‘i asking for a custom fish taco.
Kaua‘i-born Naomi Hazelton Giambrone had a reason to return home, unpacking a variety of Pacific Edge magazines as well as a host of other periodicals and work done by the Honolulu-based firm, several issues depicting profiles and articles of Kaua‘i business people.
Lisa Murphy of the Kaua‘i Government Employees Federal Credit Union took advantage of the event to promote its upcoming Credit Union Week activities later in October where the credit union will host school visits and seminars.
Lorna Santos of the Lawai Cannery Warehouse and Self Storage said they will be hosting another garage sale in November to benefit the Waimea High School Project Grad program and are currently accepting space reservations.
“We had about 50 vendors at the last sale and a lot of people waiting at the gate when we opened,” Santos said. “Sharmaine Simao even had her Halloween Haunted House with lots of holiday goodies. Who knows what will be in store for the next one.”
Throughout the afternoon, snipets of information flowed with the crowd of about a hundred guests who closed off their workday at “the edge of summer.”
The next Chamber Business AfterHours event will be Oct. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Marriott Resort and Beach Club, Lu‘au Gardens hosted by H. Hawai‘i Media and featuring door prizes including a trip to Las Vegas.
