LIHU‘E — The Lihu‘e AARP Chapter 654 will be hosting the Happy Times Community Picnic and Food Drive, Saturday, at Lydgate Pavilion from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a news release states.
Food, fun and entertainment will highlight the event which supports Kaua‘i’s hungry families, the release states. Attendees are asked to bring canned goods, rice or a monetary donation for the Kaua‘i Independent Food Bank. This is a National AARP Drive to End Hunger and all proceeds will benefit the KIFB.
Entertainers Ronnie Toki, Larry Rivera, Alberto Genovia, Mark Huff and his daughter Theresa, and Millie Curtis will perform. Entertainers will have CDs and books for sale.
Everyone who brings a donation for KIFB will have tickets put in for prize drawings donated by a variety of sponsors.
Education will be provided by the Kaua‘i Fire Department, the Emergency Medical Response team with “Andy” and the KIUC trailer will be there to exchange incandescent bulbs for free energy-saving CFLs. Educational materials by AARP and the Senior Medicare Patrol of the Office of Aging also will be available.
Other organizations are free to join the event, the release states.
