HANAPEPE — Galen Agtunong was all over the field, Thursday, netting two goals in the process of leading the Hanapepe Galaxy to a 4-0 edge over the Kalaheo Jets during the playoffs for the Boys Under 12 division at the Hanapepe fields.
The Jets’ goalkeepers, Braeden Yokoyama in the first quarter, Andrew King in the second quarter, Brett Reese in the third quarter and Braven DeCosta in the final quarter, had full workouts as the Galaxy peppered the goalmouth from the onset.
The wind at their back, the Galaxy opened with a goal off the wing when Jaime Mararagan broke open and beat out the Jets’ defender for the quick 1-0 lead.
Agtunong, one of the shorter members of the Galaxy, picked up the throw in in the second quarter and on a break down the rightside, slipped the ball past the Jets’ goalkeeper.
Ivan Trugillo, now facing the wind, capped on of his many wing balls on a goal eight minutes into the third quarter and Agtunong, roving between the two wings and the defense, iced the win in the fourth quarter.
With the win, the Galaxy advances to the championship game, facing Koloa (Middlebrook), in the AYSO, Region 940 Boys Under 12 championships, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. at Hanapepe Stadium.
This bout will be a rematch of the Oct. 18 playoff when Koloa handed the Galaxy its first loss of the playoffs, 4-1.
Should the Galaxy win the Oct. 25 game, a second match will be determined following the game.
Earlier, Koloa handed the Jets a loss, 4-1 on Oct. 15, rolling behind two goals from Kameron Parbo and a net each from Esiah Dillberg and Bing Pellin. The Jets got its sole score from Shane Takeuchi.
The Galaxy, also on Oct. 15, advanced to face Koloa after defeating Lihu‘e (Matsunaga), 5-0 behind two goals apiece from Agtunong and Trugillo. Thomas Apilado added a goal in the win as well.
During the AYSO, Region 940 Championship Week, the Girls Under 12 play for its title, Monday. Tuesday is the Boys Under 12 title game with the Girls Under 14 going for a title, Wednesday. The Boys Under 14 will automatically advance to the AYSO Will Veech tournament which will play Nov. 1 through 5 at Vidinha Stadium.
