Search for missing swimmer called off

— The search for California visitor who went missing on Oct. 3 was

called off Friday.

extensive three-day air and shoreline search was conducted with no

sign of the missing man,” states a Kaua‘i Police Department press

release.

Charles Slezak, 67, was last seen on Oct. 3, after reportedly going

for a swim at 3:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Kiahuna Plantation in

Po‘ipu, states a release from KPD the day after the Canoga Park,

Calif. man was last seen.

same day, the United States Coast Guard, which was helping in the

search, sent a similar press release, stating that Slezak was 66

years old, and was last seen wearing black and white shorts and a

light blue shirt, and was carrying pink fins with him at

approximately 3:30 p.m. on Monday.

Fire Department rescue personnel continued an air search for Slezak

on Wednesday and Thursday with the help of a Coast Guard helicopter

and vessel.

latest press release, Tuesday, KPD states Slezak was last seen in

the afternoon on Oct. 3, and reported missing later in the day at

10:43 p.m.

Slezak, of Caucasian descent, is approximately six feet tall and

weighs about 195 pounds, according to KPD. He has brown hair, green

eyes, a medium build and fair complexion.

county and USCG choppers combed the area from air, and a USCG

cutter search from the ocean, three plainclothes officers also

looked for Slezak.

with information about Slezak is urged to call KPD Dispatch at
