The Kaua‘i High School girls volleyball team will have to take the long road in its bid for the title at the 2011 New City Nissan Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association Girls Volleyball Championships.
The Red Raider wahine, taking the Kaua‘i Interscholastic Federation following a three-set victory over Waimea last Tuesday, was unseeded in Division II play at the state tournament in results announced Sunday by the HHSAA.
Kaua‘i girls, finishing the season 11-2, start play Wednesday at the Kalani High School gym on O‘ahu, facing off against the Leilehua Mules, finishing 7-7 in the O‘ahu Interscholastic Federation, at 7 p.m., the winner of that game facing the No. 4 seed Seabury Hall, Thursday, also at Kalani High School starting at 5 p.m.
Hawai‘i Baptist received the top seed for Division II followed by Roosevelt, Hawai‘i Prep at No. 3 and Seabury Hall.
Other participating schools in Division II include Konawaena of the Big Island, Radford, Moloka‘i, St. Francis, Sacred Hearts and Kau, also of the Big Island.
Punahou earned the top seed for Division I followed by Mililani at No. 2, Kamehameha Schools-Big Island at No. 3 and Kamehameha Schools-Maui at No. 4.
The championship game for Division II will take place at 5 p.m. at the Neal Blaisdell arena followed by the Division I championship at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Games from the state championships will be broadcast by OC16 Sports from McKinley High School (Div. I games), Wednesday and Thursday from 5 p.m., said Natalie Iwamoto in an email from the HHSAA.
OC16 will also broadcast the Division II and Division I championships, live from the Blaisdell Center, Saturday starting at 5 p.m., Iwamoto said.
There will be no volleyball coverage on television, Friday due to the OIA football semifinals.
Iwamoto said the HHSAA state championship results will also be regularly tweeted by the staff throughout the week by following NatalieIwamoto, HHSAA Director of Information, chrischunmode, HHSAA Executive Director, and russellaoki, HHSAA Office Manager.
