Every Italian restaurant should have at leas one Italian worker, period.
But Kilauea’s Lighthouse Bistro goes above and beyond. Third-generation Italian Jon Buono, born and raised on Kaua‘i, does it all: He is a bartender, a waiter, a chef and, believe me, a DJ.
Jon is not just a Jon-of-all-trades; he is also a master of them. Just try his “Almond Joy” and you will find out.
This decadent martini, laced with chocolate vodka, Frangelico, chocolate liqueur and rum will definitely ignite the Latin lover in you and impress any date.
The Lighthouse Bistro, located in Kong Lung Center, has live music Tuesday through Saturday. Fridays are when Jon’s true artistry shines as he spins records for an eclectic crowd.
Jon spun ceramics for eight years, which may have something to do with his obsession with DJ-ing. In his free time, all he does is spin music.
The restaurant has an array of delicious Italian dishes mixed with some Asian-Pacific cuisine — in the last Taste of Hawai‘i, it won first place for seafood dishes with its ginger-crusted ono. But Lighthouse Bistro is also home to some pretty affordable food, with a really good pasta bar.
Lighthouse Bistro is open every day from 12 to 2:30 p.m. for lunch and from 5:30 to 9 p.m. for dinner.
