WAIMEA — Three Kaua‘i boys took advantage of the warm weather and sunny skies on Sunday with a day of fishing on the Waimea Recreational Pier.
Kohana Rapozo, 15, Raymond Mendoza, 13, and Daniel Jack, 14, brought their poles and some grocery store shrimp bait. They took to the covered shelter at the end of the pier to take shade from the sun.
The other anglers seemed to be mostly teens and retirees.
Although the lengthy pier was not overcrowded, there was a steady stream of local dog walkers and visiting couples eager to take in the view of the shoreline of black sand that differs so much from the rest of the island’s brighter beaches.
