LIHU‘E — Norman Bukoski Jr., 33, of Lawa‘i, was arraigned Tuesday in Fifth Circuit Court.
A grand jury indicted him Oct. 27 on charges of first-degree negligent homicide and first-degree negligent injury stemming from a fatal crash on Kaumuali‘i Highway near Kahili Mountain Park.
Chief Judge Randal Valenciano set Bukoski’s trial date for March 19.
At around 10:16 p.m., on Jan. 19, 2010, Bukoski allegedly crossed the centerline and caused a head-on collision with a truck driven by Tomas Garcia Jr., 32, of Kapa‘a, killing him and causing serious injury to Aaron Marvin, 27, of Kilauea.
Bukoski, the sole occupant of his pickup truck, was transported to Wilcox Memorial Hospital in critical condition. He was released Jan. 21, and arrested on Feb. 3.
Bukoski is free on $50,000 bail. He appeared with his defense attorney, Michael Green, at the hearing.
Deputy Prosecutor Melinda Mendes appeared on behalf of the state.
