Gingerbread houses build fun, laughter and family

Gingerbread house kits for the 10th

Annual Easter Seals Hawai‘i Gingerbread Family Festival are now on

sale at the Easter Seals, said Shane Tokita.

The kits include four gingerbread walls, two rooftops to create a

house eight inches by nine inches by nine inches. Also included in

the kit is a variety of candies for decorating, white icing in a

pastry bag and a flat cardboard foundation and a clear gift bag for

transporting.

The kits can be worked on during the Gingerbread Family Festival,

Dec. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kukui Grove Center, or worked on

at home at a later time. Last year, some families watched the

Waimea Lighted Town Parade while working on their kits.

A keiki, including pre-school and A-Plus program students,

competition will open the morning from 10 to 11 a.m. with the

winners being announced at 11:30 a.m.

A chef’s competition, this year featuring chef Mark Sassone from

the Kaua‘i Beach Resort and chef Kahau Manzo of the Westin

Princeville, will fill the food court area from 11 a.m. to 12:30

p.m.

While the gingerbread house-building takes place, builders can

enjoy the entertainment provided by the Kapa‘a Middle School Choir

and ‘Ukulele Band under the direction of Mary Lardizabal, the

Showtime Characters, a regular feature of the Toddler Thursdays by

Kukui Grove, the Easter Seals Hawai‘i “Arc Angels,” face painting

and the antics of Happy the Clown. Everything will be guided by

Jason Fujinaka, on-air personality from Kaua‘i FM97, and the event

will also include a live feed from the mall. For those who prefer

to have everything done, the Easter Seals Hawai‘i will have

gingerbread house sales, gingerbread cookies, Easter Seals Hawai‘i

ornaments, fun bands and keiki tattoos.
