HANAPEPE — A Hawai‘i Army National Guard soldier died Wednesday afternoon while on duty at a vehicle maintenance shop on Kaua‘i, defense officials said in a news release.
The full-time federal technician was found unresponsive by another soldier and then transported to Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead around 1 p.m., the release states.
Cause of death is unknown at this time. Although the family has been notified, the HIARNG will not release the name of the soldier until the appropriate time to protect the family’s privacy, the release states. The HIARNG will assign a casualty assistance officer to support the family.
