LIHU‘E — Nico Rey Hurd apparently was chasing Santa’s sleigh, dropping in at Wilcox Memorial Hospital at 1:25 a.m. Christmas Day.
“We weren’t expecting him yet, so this made it the best Christmas present,” said Elsa Bartolini, Nico’s mother. “My mother calls him ‘St. Nico.’”
Nico came into the world tipping the scales at 7 pounds, 14.9 ounces and is the younger brother to Raine, 3, who is a student at Aloha School in Hanalei. She was anxious to hold her new brother, her mother said.
His parents are Bartolini and Wylie Hurd, also born at Wilcox Hospital, of Princeville.
Bartolini said Nico was expected on Jan. 4, so having him arrive on Christmas was special.
“He is such a good present,” she said.
Terri Ziolkowski of Princeville was at the hospital on Sunday to visit a Christmas Eve baby, Sophia Marie Gregg, who was born on Dec. 24 to Shawlin and Jeffrey Gregg of Anahola.
The Christmas Eve baby has two brothers, Iokepa and Silias, and two sisters, Alena and Kailea.
